Becoming Chartreuse is a painting about moving forward while still carrying the people and pieces of ourselves that came before. Inspired by someone close to me entering a new chapter of her life, the work explores growth, change, and the quiet process of becoming.
Chartreuse—her favorite color—became a symbol of that transformation. The two lark buntings represent her children, still close but beginning to find wings of their own. Her elongated neck and outward gaze suggest a movement toward what comes next, while the butterfly-shaped garment serves as a symbol of metamorphosis—not becoming someone entirely different, but emerging into a newer version of herself.
